Magic Tree House Educator of the Year Official Rules

IMPORTANT: Please read these Official Rules before entering the MAGIC TREE HOUSE EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR (the “Contest”), presented by RANDOM HOUSE CHILDREN’S BOOKS, a division of Penguin Random House LLC (“Sponsor”). By entering the Contest, you agree to the terms of these Official Rules.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

ELIGIBILITY:  The Contest is open to teachers of first, second, third, and fourth grade classes at schools located in the fifty (50) states, or the District of Columbia of the fifty, who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. All federal, state, and local regulations apply. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED. Employees of Sponsor its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, and agencies, and their immediate family members and persons living in their household are not eligible to enter the Contest.

ENTRY PERIOD: The Contest begins at 12:00AM ([EST]) on [DECEMBER  3], 2019, and ends at [12:00] AM ([EST]) on [APRIL 12], 2019.

HOW TO ENTER:  Enter by writing a paragraph of 500 words or less, telling us how you incorporate the Magic Tree House books into your classroom by addressing the following: What Magic Tree House fiction and nonfiction books do you use and how do you use them? How do you use the books to meet your teaching standards, and do you find them helpful for other subjects, like math, science, and history? Please explain. Supplemental materials will also be accepted as they pertain to your entry. You may email the materials to mthteachersclub@penguinrandomhouse.com or you can send in the mail. Original documents cannot be returned. Print your name, your school name, grade, full address, and phone number on an 8.5 x 11-inch piece of paper, and mail it, along with your paragraph to Magic Tree House Educator of the Year Contest, Random House, 1745 Broadway 9-1, New York, NY 10019. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. Entries must be mailed separately and received by Random House no earlier than December 3, 2018, and postmarked no later than April 12, 2019. Any entries received before  December 3, 2018 or postmarked after April 12, 2019, will be automatically disqualified. Entries must be original. Partially completed or illegible entries will not be accepted. You have the option to enter online at teachers.magictreehouse.com. Random House is not responsible for lost, late, mutilated, illegible, stolen, postage-due, incomplete or misdirected entries. All entries become the property of Random House and will not be returned, so please keep a copy for your records.

In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed made by the authorized account holder of the email address used for entry. Automated entries are prohibited, and any use of automated devices will result in disqualification. Sponsor is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate entry of information by entrants; lost or late entries or transmissions; interrupted or unavailable network, server, or other connections; scrambled transmissions or other errors or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, or electronic, technical malfunctions of any computer hardware, software, or any combinations thereof; or problems associated with any virus or any other damage caused to entrants’ systems. Incomplete entries will be voided. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned.

PRIVACY POLICY: All information submitted in connection with entry to this Contest shall be governed by Sponsor’s privacy policy (at http://www.randomhouse.com/about/privacy.html). By entering this Contest, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to this privacy policy.

PRIZE:

ONE (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive (i) a trip to New York City to have lunch with authors Mary Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce; $500 worth of Random House Children’s Books for the classroom; two autographed sets of all the books currently in the Magic Tree House series (one set for the winner’s classroom, one set for the winner’s school library); a $500 gift card for classroom supplies from a vendor chosen by Random House; and an author visit from Mary Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce via Skype technology. Trip includes round- trip coach air transportation for one (1) person from a major commercial airport near winner’s home to New York, NY; two (2) nights’ lodging (standard accommodations, single occupancy), and transfer to and from the airport in New York. If the Winners point of origin is, or is close to New York City (as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion), Sponsor may replace Economy Class air transportation with other ground transportation in its sole and absolute discretion and no compensation or substitution will be provided for difference in prize value. Approximate Retail Value (ARV): $1500. Actual retail value of prize package may vary, depending on the point of departure. All travel arrangements must be made by and confirmed through a travel agent selected by Sponsor.

If winner cannot travel by the dates specified by the sponsor, the prize will be forfeited in its entirety and an alternate Winner may be chosen. Winner will be responsible for all gratuities, meals, ground transportation, and any other incidental costs or expenses not expressly identified in these rules. Travel and use of accommodation are at risk of Winner, and Random House Inc. does not assume any liability. If for any reason a prize is not available or cannot be fulfilled, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUBSTITUTE PRIZES OF EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be assigned. No prize or cash substitutes allowed, except at the discretion of Random House as set forth in these rules. (Grand Prize Approximate Retail Value: $3000.00)

THREE (3) Runner-Up Winner(s) will each receive (i) autographed set of all the books currently in the Magic Tree House series and a $250 gift card for classroom supplies from a vendor chosen by Random House. (Runner-Up Prize Approximate Retail Value: $750.00)

WINNER SELECTION:  On or about April 27, 2019, ONE (1)  Grand Prize Winner and THREE (3) Runner-Up Winners Winners will be selected from all eligible entries received by the entry deadline by Sponsor or its designees whose decisions will be selected from all eligible entries received by the entry deadline by Sponsor or its designees whose decisions will be final and binding, based on the following criteria: originality, creativity, and ability to integrate the Magic Tree House Series into the classroom while meeting the Common Core State Standards, with equal weight being given to each criterion. Winners will be notified via email and must respond to email notification within five (5) days of receipt. Winners may also be required to complete, execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release. Noncompliance with these conditions may result in forfeiture of the Prize, and Sponsor reserves the right to select alternate winners (in random drawing from other eligible entries received before the deadline) in such circumstance. If winner notification of the Prize is returned as undeliverable, Sponsor may, at its discretion, select an alternate winner.

DISCLAIMERS:  By accepting the prize, each Winner agrees that Sponsor, and its respective parent companies, assigns, subsidiaries and affiliates, and advertising, promotion and fulfillment agencies and all of their respective employees, officers and directors will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by the Winner for any liability for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to person and property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prizes, or participation in this Contest. By participating in the Contest, each Winner consents to the use of his/her name and Entry for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf of Sponsor with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law).
